Does gender matter?

I was talking with a classmate this afternoon, and she told me that the diet for a male red-eared slider is different from the diet for a female. Mine are babies, but does that matter? If it does, how can you tell? I didn't bother checking, but does it matter?

I have never heard of this before I have 2 Reds and they eat the same stuff, Worms and Turtle food just like my Paint.

That's a relief! I'm a new turtle parent, and I keep panicking about accidentally hurting them.
