New aggressive behaviour - Yellow Belly Cooter

Hello all.
I have had my male Yellow Belly Cooter Stanley for 5 years. He was raised with a RES that I lost in May.

I got a female Golden Thread Neck a couple of months ago because I didn't want Stanley to be lonely. When I first put the two of them in the same pond Stanley didn't seem to mind. They then spent the last two months living together in my pond on the deck.

I just relocated the same pond they have been living in from outside to into my basement this week to get ready for winter. The following day after moving them inside I noticed that my GTN's tail has been bitten off and Stanley is showing some aggression towards her by biting at her...

Anyone know why he would start acting crazy now. Do I have to separate them permanently? I tried putting up a fence to keep them apart but they always find a way to get over it.
