Clawing

I have 2 yellow- bellies (14 months and 8 months old). Today the smaller one seemed to be clawing at the larger ones eyes, but it didn't seem to be bothered by it. Not sure what sex they are. Does anybody know what they're up to?

Smaller one could just be trying to climb atop the larger one. It happens often enough. I wouldn't worry about it unless there is concern that they may injure each other.

A male has extremely long nails front and back... a female has shorter on both.
A male uses those long front nails to "tickle" the female's face, it's part of the mating ritual. I think it is usually done from behind, the tickling I mean... as opposed to face to face but if they are "teenagers"... they may be acting on instinct but not be getting it right.
What exactly are you seeing and how do their nails compare? Also what is their shell length?
