Cooper's & Shelly's Stories

Since this forum is about turtle stories, I will share a story of my own.

I have two red eared sliders, Shelly and Cooper. I've had Shelly for four years, six months, a week, and a day. I've had Cooper for six months and six days.

1. One night, I was feeding my turtles very late, and I was really tired. I place them in bowls full of water when I feed them. So, Cooper and Shelly were in their bowls, and I had just thrown some turtle food in their water, at them. Since I was so tired that my eyelids were feeling heavy, I lied down on my couch. I wasn't intending on falling asleep--just resting my eyes. BUT, I did fall asleep, and the next thing that I remember is my mother vigorously shaking me awake. When I had finally woken up, she told me in a very alerted voice that Shelly was gone, since she wasn't in her bowl or in her tank. Very surprised, I stood up quickly and hovered over Shelly's bowl. And my mom was right--she had escaped. Frantically, I started searching all around my living room. I looked all around my desk area, the coffee table, and the couches. I even looked UNDER the couches! As my mom also frantically searched, she told me to go in the kitchen and look. As I walked to the kitchen, I saw this big, black blob, just in the corner of the kitchen on a plastic bag. As I grew closer, I saw that it had a head with bright, green eyes! Discovering that it was Shelly, I had over, picked her up, and placed her in my hand. Usually, Shelly is always moving and scratching, but now, all of her arms and legs were tucked inside her shell, and she felt very dry. It had to be at least an hour that she had been wondering around the house. Feeling relieved and mentally thanking God, I plopped Shelly back into her tank, full of water. When I looked over Cooper's bowl, I saw that he had fallen asleep.

2. About a month ago during Christmas time, my mom had given me this huge, Maruchan box made out of cardboard and two other little boxes. So, I placed one little box at one end of the large box. Then, I made the other little box lean on it, making a ramp. At the end of the ramp was Shelly's big, green bowl full of warm, relaxing water. Cooper and Shelly would slide down the ramp and land into the bowl. Shelly was way more reluctant to slide down than Cooper. When I placed her at the edge, she would cling on and attempt to climb out. Cooper would turn around, face the bowl, and walk into it, rather than sliding.

3. Occasionally, when the weather is hot and nice, I get a roll of string and wrap it around my turtles. I would place my turtles in bowls. Then, I wrap the string around them, and it would hold with tape. When you dip the tape attached the string in the water, it allows you to tighten or loosen the string. I would walk them on my sidewalk, but they wouldn't get very far .

And those are all of my stories for now! Hope you enjoyed reading them--bye!

P.S. There are two pictures attached. The first one is with Cooper in a bowl full of water, clinging onto a glove. The second one is with Shelly's face very close-up, about to jump out of the large box. Thank you!
