new turtle

Hey had a res for about a year just upgraded to a 90 gallon. Huge tank! fiancee wanted a friend so the turt we already had didn't get lonely didn't want to get another res so checked and a western painted turtle was a similar turtle in terms of size and habitat needs so we got it, found out they were both female (thought the res was a male). They are fine together had a greeting nip incident nothing major. except the res is climbing on top of the painted to bask. have one basking area driftwood poking out of the water in wondering if I should get another area because when he climbs up he is closer then 8 inches to the lamp and also have an exo Terra f350 submersible filter kind of Loud compared to the whisper quiet tetra reptofilter I had before is it supposed to? and sorry for the long post need any more info about habitat and set up to give reply please ask thank you

Watch them for a bit and if the same turtle always gets the sunny spot then there needs to be a 2nd basking spot/lamp. Of the 90 gallon tank, how many gallons are actually water, empty/basking/air and the portion that is water... how much is full of logs and rocks?
You might find that even giving them a 2nd basking spot that one will sit on top of the other. That behavior may be companionship, dominance... normal behavior. that part I'm not familiar with the reasoning behind it.

Cute tho!!

Well it's about 40 water I only have the one piece of driftwood in there im adding another 10 thought the driftwood would displace water I have a tank that has a access port on the side so I can't fill it up past 50, only 90 gallon I could find that wasn't over 300 dollars its a zilla turtle tank was wondering if there was a place I could send it to get a whole piece of glass put over that side if not I guess I'll have to break the bank to get one I can fill up all the way and I'll just put an ATBA any advice how to hang lights efficiently above the tank? And now the other one is getting on top so I guess they are taking turns? Lol it is funny to watch

I'm not sure where you are located. I'm in Ontario, Canada so you will need to do an internet search for tank repair in your area.
For tank glass or bigger tanks...other things to consider, used off Kijiji, Craigslist, family/friends. Some of the LFS have $1 a gallon sales or 1/2 price sales on tanks only (eg Boxing Day).
Lights can be mounted on walls, hung on lamp hangers, clamps. Depends on the style you buy.
There are tons of ideas on Youtube for DIY ideas to build your own turtle top. That is what I'm considering so that I can fill the entire 75 right to the top and then he would climb up and out into the top section to bask. My dream is this one: (but there are lots of ideas on here!!)

I'm in U.S. not familiar with what an lfs is but if it means a pet store really only chains around here petco, petsmart ,etc. Don't like to go to those I go to an aquarium specialty store. It's a little far but worth it fish and turtles all in good health. I worry when I walk into chain petstores.

I Despise water changes, really the emptying part(the only thing I have is an old 5 gallon I use to scoop the water out then pour it down the toilet sounds crude I know is there a faster way and for filling could I use a garden hose?

Sorry... darn jargon... LFS... Local Fish Store.
I use a Python Hose for mine. That is one name you can look up but yes its a hose straight from your tap to the tank. It siphons the water out first and it has a built in valve so you can regulate the temperature before you add the water back to the tank. Worth every penny you may have to pay for one and they come in various lengths depending on how far away the closest tap is to your tank. The tank end vacuums the gravel of an aquarium as well. A definite requirement to make life easier!!

Thanks for the replies, I'm not getting the python after looking around I discovered I can get a siphon and a drinking safe garden hose to fill it back up it solves my water change issues for a third of the cost but thanks you've been a huge help in finding things to make my turtles happier btw I don't mean to beg but I've posted other threads could you take a look at them and give me some advice thank you
