Red face found this turtle in backyard (pictures included)

just found this turtle this morning; here are some pictures:

what type of turtle is this?
s/he is relatively big; i'd say medium to large sized for a pet turtle.
and, i think there's something wrong with one of his/her leg... .

also, can someone give me some starter tips to caring for this turtle?
never had a pet turtle before

Looks like a box turtle to me.
Is it unable to move its back leg in?
I have not kept one myself, but if you google box turtle, I am sure you will find lots of info.

It is a eastern box turtle I have one just like it and I would take yours to the vet to get that leg checked out. Housing the turtle is easy get a fish tank put some potting soil at the bottom and put some leave and sticks to hide in and get a light for heat you must keep the humidity high in order for the box turtle to stay healthy and not sick. You can feed the turtle lettuce, crickets, worms and beetles.
