theyre Red Ear Sliders so they can get up to 9-12 inches long in 5-6 years we have bigger ones. The little Redfoot tortoise gets 12 to 16 inches long and can weigh like 35 pounds. So they get pretty big so if yoou get one be ready for it to be big in a few years.

Yes and make sure you do all the necessary research and homework before getting turtles. They are high maintenance and are costly.

i would never alow my children or myself to jump into any project or pet with out research but i wanted to ask here befor ei get started with the heavy reading..LOL... looks like they are waiting untill dad makes the fish room so we can set up a corner for a turtle i made a plan for a huge viv the other day and perhaps i will adjust it to fit their needs.... mmmmmm or do i want to go the lizard rout..... not sure yet perhaps frogs,,,, LOL like i said i am not ready yet by any means

Well if you wanted a tortoise, russian tortoises or greek tortoises dont get that big only about 6-8 inches. Plus with a tortoise you dont have to deal with all the water. Russian and greek tortoises like it warm and dry. all u need is the proper lighting and a food bowl and a water bowl big enough for them to soak in. And they live alot longer that RES well normally.
