Default feeding my new turtle

I just got a new Red Eared Slider turtle about a month ago. I have looked on the internet for tips, but I haven't found what I need to know. How much should i feed it? My turtle is a little over a year old and he loves to eat. However, I know they are known to beg for food, so how much should i feed him and how often? Also, what types of vegetation are best for them to eat besides the packaged food?
